KAIROUAN, Tunisia- On March 17th, 2015, a debate session was held under the program of Young Arab Voices (YAV) with a group of young debaters at the office of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD), Kairouan.
The motion was entitled “Some believe that the application of Sharia’ restricts women rights”.
The debate was held in the Arabic language.
The aim of this debate session was not to prove whether or not the application of Sharia’ restricts women rights, but rather to learn and apply all different debating techniques, i.e. how to become a better debater.
Afterwards, the participants watched a video of the public debate that was held previously in Egypt. Notes were taken, reminders were given regarding the Karl Popper debate format and tips were provided regarding body language.
